My name is Lucy P, I moved to Chicago from London three years ago and I LOVE living here.
When I found out that we were moving to Chicago (with my other half’s job), I spent hours Googling for advice and information about living “across the pond”. Where should we live in Chicago? How does American healthcare work? How many guns are there in Chicago? Will I still be able to buy Cadburys Mini Eggs?
I started this website because I know that the best pieces of advice that I got were (and still are) from other Expats.
My aim is to turn WindyCityBrits.com into the type of handy online resource that I would have valued myself three years ago.
So if you’re thinking of moving to Chicago, I hope this website gives you the certainty that you’re making absolutely the right decision. Chicago is a great city in a great country.
If you’re a newcomer, welcome! I hope this website helps you to settle in quickly and get to grips with life in the States, or more specifically Illinois.
And if you’re already a seasoned Expat, I hope this website helps you share your valuable tips with others and make every second of your time here count.
There is so much I enjoy about living in this city, I can’t wait to share some of it with you. I’ve been able to do so many things here that I would never have dreamed of doing in our UK life. I’ve taken up running and become passionate about sport and fitness. I’ve bought a detached house for less than a squillion pounds. I’ve been on some epic roadtrips across the States and been wowed by the sheer scale, beauty and diversity of this country. I’ve tried foods, watched sports and celebrated holidays that I’d only ever heard of in films. I’ve seen famous British bands, actors and comedians play to tiny venues. I’ve had tea with Chicagoan President Barack Obama. * All this and so much more.

Thank you again for visiting, enjoy!
A special hello to Anglophilic American visitors…
Hello! (waves) and welcome. If you are looking for an Anglophilic fix, this website will help you find the best of Britain in Chicago (music, sport, brands, food) but it is mainly about highlighting American awesomeness to Brits so please be warned, if you’re hoping for lots of Beatles, Marmite and Downton Abbey, I can recommend the magnificent (and Chicago-based) Anglotopia.net instead.
* Oh OK that last one was a fib. But I did once get to see the entire Presidential motorcade tearing down Clark St. Quite a sight.
